What exactly does 'interactive online education' mean? eLycée's classes are unlike conventional online classes because they are fully interactive. This means that the students and teachers in our classes can see each other, talk to each other and work together in real time. It's like being a real classroom, with the added bonus of a range of tools and applications that you won't find in a traditional classroom. For example, eMediatheque - our interactive workspace - is unique to eLycée. All our eProfs (teachers) are native French speakers and are certified by the French Ministry of Education (Ministère de l'éducation nationale). Middle School and High School students can sign up for a month, a term, or a full year; the majority of our students follow a full year's course. College students and adults can purchase weekly workshops sessions in lots of 7, 10 or 15. Private lessons can also be purchased in lots of 7, 10 or 15 and private students are able to set their own timetable. More information. Yes! Anyone can schedule a free session in our virtual classroom. Middle School and High School students can sign up for a 30-day risk-free trial. How do you organize the students into classes? We have an online language evaluation - The eLycée Challenge. For prospective students, we follow this with one or two interviews with a teacher; these interviews may take place in the online classroom. When we are satisfied that we have correctly evaluated a student, he/she will be placed in a class with students of a similar age and level. When do your classes take place? All our classes take place after school - or at the weekend - to accommodate our students' busy schedules. It is not always possible for students to choose their own schedule, but we try to be as flexible as possible; where possible, we offer more than one weekly time slot per class. What's the difference between your 2-hour per week courses and your 4-hour per week courses? Our 4-hour per week courses are full time courses, which either count towards school credit or prepare students for a specific exam, e.g. AP French Language. Our 2-hour per week Maintien de la Langue courses - with the exception of the 2-year AP French Literature course - include extra private tutorial time; in addition to their own language objectives, students generally work towards a range of different diplomas. What kind of equipment do I need? You need a recent PC (running Windows XP/Vista) or Mac, a high-speed Internet connection, a headset with built-in microphone, and a webcam. What about technical problems? We have a full-time technical team who will help you download and install eMediatheque; they are also available should you run into technical problems before, during or after class. Not yet. A French school in the US must have 3 years of practice to be certified. However, eLycée is endorsed by Philippe Sauret, Cultural Attache at the French Embassy in Washington, and our AP French courses are accredited by the College Board. We also work with partner schools and organizations, and a range of academic and non-academic bodies in North America. All our teachers are native French speakers and are certified by the French Ministry of Education (Ministère de l'éducation nationale). What kind of diplomas do you award? The DELF and DALF (French equivalent of TOEIC/TEFL) are recognized by universities worldwide. Our AP® French Language and AP® French Literature courses are accredited by The College Board. More details here. Do classes with eLycée count towards school credit? Our full courses, i.e. 4-hours per week, count towards school credit. See Courses & Fees. How do I register for a course? Contact us and one of our representatives will look after you. If you're not sure where to start, take The eLycée Challenge and request a free language assessment. We can help you identify the right program and the right class; we look forward to welcoming you to our online learning community!
